Tanghulu, a vibrantly colored treat on a stick, a hard candy shell encasing juicy fruit, it's a textural and flavor explosion in every bite. With roots in China's Song Dynasty, it's a delicious tradition enjoyed for centuries. Vendors skewer fruits like strawberries then coat them in a candy shell for a delightful textural and flavor contrast. Biting into the hardened candy shell creates a satisfying crack, followed by the burst of juicy sweetness from the fresh fruit within. The sweet and tart combination is a refreshing balance. Traditionally made with hawthorn berries, a tart fruit. Over time, the recipe evolved, with vendors using bamboo skewers to skewer the fruit and experimenting with different fruits. Today, you'll find Tanghulu throughout China and other parts of Asia, with variations featuring strawberries, grapes, and mango. Good news is you don't have to travel all the way to China for it. There are many online recipes available to recreate this treat at home within minutes
